OH&S Policies
Our Aim

At Studio Blue Dance, the health and safety of our students, families, teachers, and visitors is our highest priority. Our approach to Work Health and Safety focuses on providing a safe dance environment, delivering well-planned and age-appropriate classes, and ensuring that all teaching and studio operations are carried out with care and consideration. Every decision we make is guided by our commitment to keeping everyone within our studio community safe.

Safety in the Dance Environment

Studio Blue Dance operates in hired venues and works closely within the Work Health and Safety policies set by each venue provider. We rely on venue management to ensure that facilities meet safety standards and are suitable for dance use. Should any safety concern arise that relates to the venue itself, Studio Blue Dance will notify the relevant venue management and request that the issue be addressed promptly.

We ensure that all venues used by Studio Blue Dance are appropriate for dance activities. This includes ensuring that studio spaces are suitable for class sizes, free from obstructions, and supported by appropriate flooring, ventilation, lighting, heating or cooling, and sound systems. Toilet facilities and safe waiting areas are also available. For safety and supervision, students waiting to be collected are asked to remain inside the studio or designated waiting areas.

Effective and Safe Teaching Practices

Studio Blue Dance is committed to providing safe and effective dance instruction through thoughtfully planned classes that consider dance style, student age, ability level, and individual needs.
Teachers actively promote safe dance practices by encouraging appropriate dance wear, clearly explaining and demonstrating correct technique, and providing guidance on movements that should be avoided or modified.

Students are taught how to move safely and are reminded of precautions that help reduce the risk of injury. Teachers closely observe dancers to correct alignment and technique, provide alternative movement options where needed, and offer variations in intensity to suit different abilities.
Class sizes are carefully managed to ensure students receive appropriate supervision and support, and lessons are structured clearly and consistently.
Movement is balanced on both sides of the body to support safe development.
Open communication is encouraged, and students or parents are asked to speak with teachers about any concerns.
Teachers actively encourage families to inform them of any injuries sustained before, during, or after class. Students are also reminded to take responsibility for their own participation and to avoid pushing their bodies beyond safe limits.

Injury Prevention, Recovery, and Rehabilitation

Injury prevention is an important part of every class at Studio Blue Dance. Lessons include appropriate warm-up and cool-down periods, stretching and strengthening exercises, and preparation for more complex movements. Teachers provide guidance on common injuries, explain potentially unsafe practices, and structure lessons to avoid overuse or excessive repetition of specific muscle groups. Students are expected to wear suitable attire to support safe movement.

When injuries occur, recovery and rehabilitation procedures are followed. Teachers may advise injured students to seek professional medical advice, avoid movements that could cause further harm, and use safe stretching techniques. Students and parents are encouraged to share any professional diagnoses with teachers so movements and exercises can be adapted where appropriate, and specialist advice can be supported within classes.
